| Head of the queen Marie’s Counsel, Marie-Anne maintained a secret relation with Louis, duc de Melun, duc de Joyeuse with whom she was passionately in love. She even sealed a marriage with him but this one’s untimely death was to make her cry a lot. The duc died durring a hunt in 1724 in Chantilly. The dieing deer stabbed him in the belly and the poor duc could not be saved. The princesse never recovered from her pain and never granted to remarry. Her famous portrait that you can also find in the gallery was painted by Nattier in the pavillion of mineral waters, she was then 32 years old. | |
